wipEout 2048 Preview

I've been playing wipEout since the PS1 came out over 12 years ago.  I've loved the series for its inventive course design, excellent weapon system, and steep learning curve.  Winning a race just felt really good as it took a fair amount of time to figure out how to do it.  When the PSP came out, my favorite launch title was wipEout Pure.  And now, for the Vita launch I'm excited for wipEout 2048.

This tile features really bright colors and crisp details.  I've been saying it a lot, but I think even the crappy Vita games will look great on the gorgeous display.  Also, this title is the first to launch with PS3 to Vita cross play functionality.  This means that you can play against anyone that has wipEout HD on the PS3 while on your Vita.

Enjoy the video.  I will likely be going back to the Vita Hill Social Club in a few days to try and get some more videos.

  1. When all is said and done, I think I'm going to end up in the same situation that I found myself in with the 3DS, where my compulsive need to own the hottest new portable hardware as soon as it's available is going to leave me with nothing to play on it for a few months.

The Vita launch lineup is looking slicker than your average launch lineup tends to, sure, but the problem I'm facing is that it's filled with ports of games that I've either played in one form or another, or that I still own on another console. None of the few games that I don't own or haven't already played to death really speak to me as being something that I have to play immediately, with the possible exception of Uncharted, which I may end up buying just to have something to play while I wait for the games that I'm really looking forward to to come around.

As for this game, Wipeout has never been my favorite series. It's not that it's terrible or anything, and I can even see the appeal in it. It just doesn't do anything for me. Sure the graphics might be nice, and cross-platform play with the PS3 version is admittedly pretty cool, but Wipeout was never my bag and I don't see that changing.
